First of all, I’m learning all kinds of new things about how Substack works, ways to drive engagement, and other fancy marketing/newsletter buzzwords. For example, I’m told that I can just paste the link to a “note” I added to Substack right here in this missive, and that you will see it built into this newsletter like it belongs here. Let’s test this out:
WOW!
OK so this brings me to my first real thing:
NAME THE GRIZZLY CREW’S SHIP!
That note above was me asking people to help us name the Grizzly Crew’s ship. Right now, my favorite suggestion is “THE BEARRACUDA”. I think you can click the note and go right to it and comment with your suggestion, or find the same post on BLUESKY and comment there. If we use your suggestion, I will send you a free copy of the book once it’s printed this summer. How’s that sound?
THE CLOAKROOM
We launched issue four of our anthology series, all created by students of Scott Snyder’s Best Jackett Club Substack comics writing course. Just 5 days in and we’re almost 50% of the way to our goal. Check it out below, share with your friends! I recently revamped the whole campaign page to include samples from each of the new stories, bios and info so you can follow all the creators, and featured rewards.
Here are the stories from this issue:
TV DUMP
Hacks season 4 ended this week. I continue to believe that the show ended perfectly after the second season, even though I LOL at least once per episode. Every season just ends kind of the same way.
Trying to catch up on Andor… please tell me it picks up after 2-3 episodes? I’m DYING here.
I’m sure I’m just setting myself up here, but I’m genuinely excited for the return of Dexter. The original series ended so weird. The prequel series just made me miss Michael C. Hall more, and the New Blood series (aka the OG series finale mulligan) reminded me how good Hall is and how much I miss him.
Wednesday is back soon.
There’s a release plan for Stranger Things where they’re dumping chunks of the final season on holidays at the end of the year. Netflix went ahead and broke TV with the binge model, and now it’s like they’re starting to get what Disney already gets, that you NEED to release things over time… but they can’t just bring themselves to release things weekly. That would be too much like TV. Too much like surrender. So instead I have to find time over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years to watch this show.
Hot Take: Superman is going to be good. So is Fantastic Four. That one is going to be REALLY good. But I’m most excited for Zootopia 2 and Mickey 17.
