For the last almost 2 years I’ve been a subscriber to Scott Snyder’s Our Best Jackett Substack. He runs a great writing series/class/workshop there and I’ve learned so much just listening to him talk about the process both alone and with some really incredible guests like superstar editor Will Dennis, and top creators like Donny Cates and James Tynion IV.
Two years back, some students in the group gathered short comics from their classmates and put together an anthology. One of the stories actually got an Eisner nomination, which is incredible. The following year, a different group created a second volume of the series. This year, I took over publishing it (with my partner on the project, Veronica Howell) and we’ve converted it to a 3-4 times annually anthology series: The CloakRoom.
We’re getting ready to launch a Kickstarter for issues 1-2 - click the image to follow the campaign. You can get both issues, and pick up the previous volumes of the series as well.
And if you’re an aspiring creator, I highly recommend listening to the back episodes of Scott’s class. Such great storytelling tips from a master at the peak of his powers. Almost 20,000 subscribers can’t be wrong. There’s a tier where you can actually submit your own work to Scott and meet with him and get notes and suggestions to improve your writing. In fact, many of the stories in this next issue have been through that process with Scott.
OK - keeping it short and sweet for a Tuesday morning. Hope those of you who are in the US had a great long weekend, and hope those of you in Canada have gotten over your hangovers from celebrating Queen Victoria last weekend. And to everyone, everywhere else, Happy Tuesday!
Jerry
Us Canucks call it May 2-4 for a reason!
Scott's going to owe you some affiliate money for how much your pumping his class (but, truthfully, very worth the deal. Highly recommend folks check it out.)
You and Veronica are killing it, Jerry! Keep it up.
